The 2024 Ford Ranger finally gets a full redesign and it shows. You get strong towing power, a smoother ride, and a tech-loaded interior that feels up-to-date. It’s easier to park, easier to live with, and has just enough power and space for most casual truck tasks. It’s for people who want a capable, well-rounded truck for everyday life, not hardcore off-roaders or heavy haulers.

Engine and Performance

Every Ford Ranger 2024 starts with a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that makes 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes standard on XL, XLT, and Lariat trims and delivers enough muscle for daily driving, light towing, and weekend adventures.

If you want more power, a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 is available on higher trims starting with Lariat. It cranks out 315 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. All Ranger models come with a 10-speed automatic transmission. 

Rear-wheel drive comes standard on the 2024 Ranger, but you can upgrade to four-wheel drive on any trim. 4WD models get selectable drive modes, and if you add the FX4 Off-Road Package, you’ll also get a locking rear diff and beefed-up shocks for light off-roading.

The 2024 Ranger rides better than ever. It’s smoother, quieter, and more stable than the last gen, especially over bumps and rough roads. Body roll is well-controlled and the new suspension setup gives it a more planted feel. It still rides like a truck, but it won’t beat you up on the daily drive.

The 2024 Ford Ranger can tow up to 7,500 pounds across all engine options, matching the best in the midsize truck class. Payload tops out at 1,805 pounds with rear-wheel drive and 1,711 pounds with four-wheel drive. That’s more towing power than the Toyota Tacoma, which maxes out at 6,500 pounds, and the Nissan Frontier, which tops out at 6,720 pounds. 

Fuel Economy

With the standard 2.3L turbo-four, the 2024 Ranger gets up to 21 mpg city and 25 mpg highway with rear-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive drops those numbers slightly to 20 city and 24 highway. Even the more powerful 2.7L V6 manages a respectable 19 mpg city and 23 highway.

That’s better than the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, both of which average around 20 mpg combined with their standard engines. So if you’re looking for solid power without taking a big hit at the pump, the Ranger makes a strong case.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo 

The 2024 Ranger keeps things simple inside, but it’s a clear upgrade from the last gen. The front seats are comfortable enough for daily driving. Step up to the Lariat for better materials and more support. Rear seat space is decent. Adults will fit; just don’t expect limo-level comfort.

Storage is practical. You get under-seat bins, a second glovebox up top, and deep door pockets. The 5-foot bed gives you around 43 cubic feet of space, enough for plywood, bikes, or weekend gear. There’s also a tailgate that drops gently, built-in tie-downs, and optional power outlets in the bed. It’s still a work truck at heart, but way more livable than before.

Infotainment & Tech Features

The 2024 Ranger comes standard with an easy-to-use 10.1-inch vertical touchscreen running Ford’s SYNC 4A system, with a larger 12.4-inch screen available on higher trims. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and voice controls are included across the board. Navigation, a wireless charging pad, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot are optional. 

A basic audio setup comes standard, while higher trims like the Lariat offer an upgraded B&O sound system. You’ll also find handy features like over-the-air updates, remote start, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist. The Ranger’s tech feels modern and useful without being overly complicated.

As of now, the 2024 Ford Ranger has not yet been rated by the NHTSA. However, the previous model earned four out of five stars, and with the updated platform and more standard safety tech, we expect similar or improved results once testing is complete.
